Embracing Change
“Behold, I am doing a new thing; now it springs forth, do you not perceive it? I will make a way in the wilderness and rivers in the desert.” -Isaiah 43:19
Change is hard. Getting stuck in a rut is easy. Being comfortable in our world is the easiest rut to fall into and the most difficult to give up when required. Humans are obsessed with personal comfort. There is nothing wrong with our desire to live every day in comfort, but it is essential to understand that God is not all that concerned with our level of comfort. We know this to be true for a couple of reasons.
First, the Bible tells us so. He never strove for it personally, and while His disciples certainly wanted to live in daily comfort, Jesus never led them that way. No Bible character, in fact, lived a life of comfort, and we should expect the same: to spend much time being uncomfortable.
While God never promises that we will live in comfort in this life, He does promise ways through difficult times. When He says He will make a way through the wilderness, we can believe that we will spend at least some of our time in the desert. When He says He will supply rivers in the desert, we must trust that deserts will be a part of our journey.
Life is all about change. Each year brings so many changes, some good others not, but we cannot avoid them. We do not have the foresight to see potholes, whereby missing them, but God does. He is the leader and we get to follow. He is the the Provider, we are the needer. He is the giver, we are the beggar.
While humans don’t like change, we can trust that God is doing new things, making ways, and using all things for our good and His glory.
Embrace change and trust God. He has gone before you, and He will make a way.
PRAY & BELIEVE
Lord, help me to be less concerned with my comfort level and more concerned with those around me. Grow me up into who You want me to be. I know You don’t need me, but You want me. Thank you for choosing me to belong to You and for opening my ears to hear Your voice. I am in such need, but I know You are the Provider who sees all my needs and will meet every one of them in Your timing and ways. Help me to be patient and keep my hope in You. Amen.
