He Is Faithful
“He who calls you is faithful; he will surely do it.” - 1 Thessalonians 5:24
In order to believe that God is faithful, we must grasp two things tightly: an understanding of who He is and faith that He is who He says He is. Trusting God can, at least for me and I am sure for you, be like a pendulum. One minute, I trust him fully, and even a shadow of doubt can't be found. But the next, my heart is fluttering, my mind is racing, and I am begging Him to show up.
Often, I feel poorly for fluctuating like this, but then I remember that even the disciples on the boat had spaces in their lives where doubt crept in. In that moment, God did not condemn them but drew them in to trust Him more. I find the disciples' response encouraging in my moments of doubt: "Lord, we believe—but help our unbelief."
Those words used to confuse me, but as I get older, they confuse me less. We have areas in our lives where we know that we know He is faithful.
In times where we have seen His hand repeatedly, it is far easier to trust than in areas where we've not yet walked and, therefore, not yet needed Him. But I, like the disciples in the boat, face new storms from time to time, and my faith waffles.
But, without fail, no matter what situation comes my way, God shows Himself to be faithful.
My prayer now has become, "Lord, I believe, but help my unbelief.”
The more I experience life's troubles, the more I experience God because He is always beside me, and each time, my faith grows. Trust Him. He is faithful, and when you have doubt, don't be discouraged; just ask the Lord to help your unbelief.
He will, without fail because He is faithful. He will do what He has promised.
Watch and see what God will do.
PRAY & BELIEVE
Father, I believe You are good most of the time, but something happens, and I begin to doubt. I feel crazy sometimes when I go back and forth in my mind. Sometimes, my mind argues with itself, and I wonder if I am crazy! But Lord, remind me that this is normal. It is a constant battle because we are in a sinful world, and I do have an enemy who throttles me with doubt. Jesus, I do believe, but help my unbelief. Show me where those areas are, and teach me to know with certainty that You are good in every circumstance. I need You, every day, to help me, remind me, call me, and not let me go. Amen.
