Break My Heart

Entering into another person’s suffering is an incredible strengthening agent in relationships, because if you never fall apart together you’ll never know the victory of being lifted up together. The lows are just as important as the highs, and you’ll never fully appreciate the victories in your life unless you hit the ground at some point.

Every broken road

Every shattered dream

All of the times I failed, you were grace to me.

How when I look back at my story

There is no way I’d know who you are

If you never let this world break my heart

I wrote those lyrics for my song “Break My Heart” after looking back at all the scars of my past and reaching a point where I could be thankful for them. When you think about it, the moments when your life seems to be falling apart is when you begin to long for something better. It’s when God begins his work of change and sanctification, which is a fancy word for God working in you to set you apart and call you out for himself.

I remember being frustrated and even angry in my most heartbreaking moments, but I wouldn’t trade any of them now.

It sounds crazy, I know, but I believe the moments we fall apart are actually opportunities to fall on Jesus. If your heart never breaks, then you’ll never find the God who will hold and heal your broken heart. If you never experience failure, you may never know the sweet and amazing grace that was poured out on the cross for you.

The moments that undo us are often the very moments God uses to remake us.
Healing doesn’t always come by avoiding the pain, but by meeting Jesus in the middle of it.

Is there a broken place in your life that you need to bring to Him today?
